Awa Manju is a famous sweet ban in the town of Yanaizu.
They say that there was a big fire at Yanaizu about 190 years ago, and after that, the sweet ban was made with a wish that the town would avoid disaster in the future.
Basically, the sweet bun is made individually by hand in the shops.
I think that is their preference.
The dough is used millet mixed with glutinous rice and smooth bean paste is in it.
It has a unique taste which is composed of the roughness of the millet and viscosity of the glutinous rice.
Maybe there are few people overseas who have had such a taste.
As it becomes hard in about two days, I would like you have a freshly made one.
On holidays, you will see a lot of people visit the shops to buy it.
By the way, Koikekasiho (小池菓子舗) opened their branch shop last year at a commercial construction called Marugoto Nippon in Asakusa, Tokyo.
If you like Japanese sweet bun, I’d like you to try it.
