A facility that I introduced on the page of my website “Aizu-Nakagawa station” finally opened at the place next to Michinoeki “Oku-Aizu Kaneyama” in the town of Kaneyama on July 21.
The facility was mainly built to promote the Tohoku Electronic Power Company, dams of the Tadami River, and the Oku-Aizu area.
They say the roof of the building represents a chain of mountains in Oku-Aizu.
The nickname of the facility is “MIORI”.
The name was chosen from submissions from the public.
A girl living in the town gave it the good name.
A piece of a huge screw used for hydroelectric power was exhibited at the entrance.
They say that it weighs no less than 1.6 tons.
In the building, there are a theater and a section that introduce dams of the Tadami River and the Oku-Aizu area, and another section that introduces “Jiro Shirasu” who was the first president of the Tohoku Electric Power Company.
Moreover, there are paintings themed on Oku-Aizu and the Tadami River by some Japanese artists and a famous Japanese entertainer and artist “Tsurutaro Kataoka” .
The section introduces dams of the Tadami River and areas of Oku-Aizu with a projection mapping technique and a screen.
It showed them dynamically and beautifully using these devices so I was fascinated and enjoyed.
Especially, the production of the changing of the four seasons of Oku-Aizu was wonderful!
Although the explanation was spoken by Japanese, people from overseas also will surely enjoy it just by watching it.
“Jiro Shirasu” was a Japanese famous businessman and was active after World War II.
His way of life was legendary and he is admired by a lot of Japanese people even now as if he was a movie star.
By the way, it’s said that he was the first person who wore jeans among Japanese people.
He played an active role in Japan’s foreign policy after the war, and after that he devoted himself to building the dams of the Tadami River as the president of Tohoku Electronic Power Company.
There are stone monuments on which his messages are written at some of the dams.
I would like you to see the works by some Japanese artists in the art galleries, though I couldn’t take photos of them ; it was prohibited there.
Especially, a big stained glass is the work I recommend you to see.
It is themed on various things of Oku-Aizu such as living creatures and plants .
I was very impressed with it and I think you will be too if you see it.
Lastly, I will introduce a nice lounge in the facility.
There were stylish wooden tables and chairs.
The view from there was wonderful.
That day, a river fog had just appeared on the Tadami River.
We will be able to see other beautiful scenery in other seasons.
MIORI was a wonderful facility, in addition, anyone can enter it without charge.
Although they explain only in Japanese now, I think it is a place that people from overseas can enjoy too.
